      George Szell's conducting style is pefectly suited for playing Mozart and Haydn, and it shows on this disc. The "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" is one of the best versions available, I would rank it alongside one of the Bruno Wlater renditions of the piece. The Bruno walter version came bundled with 2 Mozart Violin Concertos on the Sony "Bruno Walter Edition" series which is largely out of print. Symphonies 28 & 33 are solid performances and worth the money. However, I found symphony 35 to be a bit lacking on this disc. I have previously purchased Szell's other Sony Classical Mozart disc that had symphonies 35, 40 & 41 on it, and found the version on that disc to be superior. Not sure if they were different recordings or not, but the other disc sounded better for Symphony 35. I am inclined to believe its a different recording date, given the tracks are of slightly different lengths between the two cd's. Given the budget prices of the Sony Classical discs, you can easily buy both of Szell's Mozart discs and get an extra copy of the 35.
