Beyond the Blues, Taylor masters mood, conscience, melody and pulse to create something more.

There is something of all of the above in Otis's music, and it is certainly no different in this offering. A real pleasure to listen to and get absorbed by.

I bought this cd mainly because the reviews i read said it was really good. I listened to it once, listened again a week later. I kept waiting for the songs to take off, but they never do. It isn't that the music is bad, it just isn't worth turning on. It has no steam. With apologies to all you fans, I deleted this album from my computer and my ipod. I don't have any need to hear it again with all the great blues music out there. NOT worth the money. keith

I'm 54 years old and raised in the deep south, growing up on Texas radio and the sounds of Hank, Willie, and Muddy. Otis Taylor's new album pays tribute to them all and then some. Starting out like cannon fire, this allbum will take you on an emotional journey of blues, jazz and roots, just as it is intended to. Kudos to the Podcasting great, "Salty Dog" for starting out his weekly show with Taylor's "Love and Hesitation"; the man knows a player when he hears one. Don't "Hesitate": get this album now. RD

The blues has been so worked over and replicated and reproduced that it's become somehow mainstream and acceptable. Predictable, even. Not so with Otis Taylor, a musical shaman who can make you laugh or make the hair on the back of your neck stand up all in one song. His repetitive, minimal, rhythm-driven tales conjure a trance-like state which is both entirely original and, I firmly believe, something very old and essential. The result is a wild and joyous thing to hear. The ballads and stories and hollers and lamentations that Otis Taylor spins are things of rare beauty and transcendent emotion.

I have not heard much of Otis Taylor, but the song "Few Feet Away" heard on XM radio made me check iTunes to see if the album was there as soon as I got home. I enjoy blues but this sound was as the title explains "something unexpected". Well worth the price of admission.
