Without out a doubt, this film, which was shot during single takes, is an incredible piece of visual art & the music which is performed is truly heartfelt & genuine. The Broadway performance pales in comparison to this recording.

The only song I like on this album is the one performed solo by Marketa Irglova. As for the rest, I can't count how many times I've re-visited the album to try again to like it, but Glen Hansard's emotional affectations bother me every time. I can really get into someone belting from the heart if I can relate to the lyrics, and the singer is believable, but most of the songs on this album are poisoned by un-earned "emotional" climaxes and drama. There's a sameness to the songs that bores me to tears. I tried to like it because I liked the movie, but I just can't.

Stumble upon the movie searching for anything new. REALLY enjoyed it.

Ended up recording this movie on DVR by accident. Things happen for a reason. Absolutely spellbound by the music. Bought the soundtrack immediately. Watch it now. Use closed captioning so you see the lyrics.

Incredible movie, with a beautiful music, so sensitive history one of my favorite movies, really happy to buy this album.

As a musician: I never liked folk music until watching this movie. I was first introduced to the soundtrack by former band mates and then went searching for more of The Swell Season, Frames, and Glen Hansard. This album is the perfect marriage of beautiful melodies and tragic heart felt lyrics that this world so desperately needs. When today's music will be nostalgic as we grow older, this artistry will forever be timeless. Personally, this album is nothing we haven't heard before love songs, and odes of woe and joy. But what makes it stand out is the blood, sweat, and tears that went into making each song. The sleepless long nights, the rewriting melodies/lyrics. All things that musicians can find relative in their own work. Before even seeing this movie I had my own "once" moment with a former colleague. A beautiful moment where harmonies and timbre matched so well as if almost to conceive a third voice. This album. Buy it. Listen and feel.

These songs from the musical are absolutely amazing. They're hauntingly beautiful and the lyrics will blow you away. I discovered the soundtrack years before I finally watched the movie, and it does not disappoint.
