    • A great album

I have listened to this album many times throughout the years and it sticks with me maybe more than any other Bette Midler album. Knights in Black Leather and Married Men are my 2 least favorite cuts but they are fun and I understand the need for balance by including a couple of upbeat tunes. But the sad ones...Millworker, Cradle Days, Rain are heartbreaking and beautifully interpreted. The disco soul of Hurricane with Luther Vandross as one of her backup singers is a very sexy groove. Big Noise from Winnetka is fast funny and strangely bittersweet. All of these songs leave a lasting impression that grows because of Bette's superb singing and acting skills. I don't know if Aaron Russo was still her manager when Thighs And Whispers was released, but she did all of her best most memorable work under his guidance. I am still mourning the end of that superb team of talent and management.

....and that's really too bad, because on this CD are a collection of under-rated gems, beginning with one of the best performances of Bette's career with "Cradle Days" (and the stellar chorus of background singers on the track add much flavor, and hit the ball out of the park achieving the sound Arif Mardin was looking for.) 'Let's talk it over...'

This LP came out in the heart of BOOm BOOm Boom........the Disco year of 1979. There was an insert of the LP of Miss M in that dynamic perm, with a expression on her face that could read, "How do I get in here?". I put it in my Bathroom, on the door, so when people sat, there she stared. I Loved this LP because it truly reflects the flexibility of Bette Midler. Not to forget to mention the ballads with flawless vocals. "Cradle Days" is an excellent tune that I also feel carried through the decades. And I remember shaking my groove thing to "Married Men". Which Bette also performed on SNL. With support vocalists like Luther Vandross and Sharon Redd. May they rest in peace. And it`s dedicated to her Mom, Ruth. Who passed before the LP was released or got to see one of her girls on screen. So it has a special sentiment in many ways. Very glad to see it here.

This ablum is unique and a true gem. It shows off Bette's young, rich, and pure voice. The songs are a little unusual, but that's what Bette does Best! They are really fun and entertaining.

One of the weakest albums in this great entertainer's career catalogue. The only real exception is the disco gem Married Men.

This is one of my favorites. It has it all: Knight in Black Leather makes you want to get up and dance and Millworker will make you cry your eyes out! A true classic that deserves a 2nd listen.

I have very mixed emotions about this collection, and over the years the cut that stands out and finds its way onto a lot of my playlist is "Cradle Days". It is a big sounding, big voiced number that hits me hard every time I hear it. The pacing of the song takes you through various emotions with it softer beginning and angrier end. I love the strength of Midler as a storyteller and she does it beautifully on "Cradle Days" and "Millworker". Of course my friends say most of my playlist are music to slash wrist by, I do find ways to enjoy the entire range of Bettes' voice and personality. "Hang on In There Baby" is a good cut, the rest I have not returned to often. Still 3 great songs on one album is better average than I can find on most contemporary releases.
