4 150-200lb teenagers jam packed into a early 1970’s Chevy Pick up truck crammed like sardines! Rocking out to this album beginning to end over and over! This was the first record in my young life I had listened to all the way through, over and over, I couldn’t get enough. I cherish these memories. I was 13, my buddies older brother is driving my other buddies dads pick up(without permission) because he is passed out somewhere. We were young, wild, and FREE living the American Dream! Creed is part of the American Fabric! I’m so grateful to have their music in my memory bank 🙏🏻 5⭐️

Whenever an album gets a 5 star review, that review should give reasons behind the rating. Creed broke through with this album in 1997, with only a few thousand dollars going into the album. That may seem like a lot of money, but it's not for the music industry. Reason #1 behind 5 stars: The lyrics. Stapp showed off his true lyrical talent with Creed's first album. You could feel the emotions in songs like Torn, My Own Prison, Ode, What's This Life For.....or really any song. I remember years ago my brother, who isn't the biggest Creed fan, said, "Man, My Own Prison was one of those albums that you could just listen all the way through." The album could have definitely been mixed better. However, we are talking only a few thousand dollars in 1997. So they can get a pass on that. Tremonti's beautiful fingerpicked melodies and Stapp's Morrison-like lyrics is what helped this album shine. The album, My Own Prison, will always be known as what jumpstarted Creed to stardom.
