“Worktapes” is a brilliant collection of renditions of Rich Mullins’ tremendous songwriting. The fact that each song is essentially an iPhone demo recording is an updated homage to Rich’s lo-fi boombox recordings for “The Jesus Record” demos. And the minimalist setting allows Rich’s meaningful lyrics & the artists’ emotive vocal delivery shine through. Highly recommended!

I love that there were so many great covers of Rich favorites a sequel to Bellsburg was needed. If your favorite didn’t make Bellsburg, you might find it here on Worktapes. I could tell stories all day long about these songs, but I’ll just give a special shout-out to Awesome God … you may love or hate the commercial success of the original, but this (this!) is the southern gospel rock cover you didn’t know you needed. I love this whole album!
