I beg to differ with the author of the notes for this entry. Surfer Dan apes Jan & Dean, a sound that truly is distinctive from the Beach Boys 90% of the time. That said, this is a fine collection of turtles music.

One of their best songs, and one of the best bands of the '60's.

The Turtles should not be mistaken for some of their more earnest contemporaries. It is no coincidence that Flo and Eddie worked with Frank Zappa when the band were defunct. This album is an impressive tour through the various subgenres popular at the time of its release. Hilarious and cool at the same time.

The humor and goofiness of the Turtles may make you miss some really well-crafted production. You Showed Me is a great example -- haunting and touching, great arrangement and a strange-but-perfect final chord on the fade-out.

"Oh, Daddy" is a nice rock song. I thought only the Beatles wrote riffs like that in '68. I guess not!
