this is easily my 2nd fave rhcp album, after bssm. definitely a harder edge, more hard rock and more raw funk than the more melodic stuff they've done since californication and beyond. a lot of attitude and bravado (in a good way) on this album.
knock me down was the song that really caught my ear and started me on becoming a big fan of the peppers. not a bad song in the bunch on this one, imo. some of my other faves are taste the pain, sexy mexican maid, pretty little ditty, nobody weird like me and good time boys.

The funk and heavy guitar much more prevent. As a person who thought that blood sugar sex magic was the pinnacle, I love this album almost as much. If the poppier version of the peppers is your thing you might not care for this one, but the funk is thick and I loved it!

After Hillel’s passing, a teenage John & Chad joined the band. Mother’s has all the signs of what was gonna come from the Peppers written all over it. Funky, raw, & seriously rocking with Tree to boot. A beautiful record laced with a lot of sadness & pain. Sexy’s a syrupy Peppers deep cut classic. Hillel & Jack on Fire is a RHCP live show standard.
